ABSTRACT

The long-term care insurance system was initially introduced 10years ago in Japan. The long-term care insurance servicerecipients have been increasing steadily during the decade. The laypeople should have paid more tax due to the increasing nursingcosts as the time goes on. Thus, the effectiveness of the systemshould be evaluated regularly. A prevention approach, as one of theprojects that were developed by the Health, Medical and Caresectors, was applied to the long-term care insurance system tocheck the effectiveness. Metabolic syndrome screening and specifichealth education projects for middle-aged and elderly people wereincluded in the approach, although there were not manyparticipants on the schemes.
