ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore the degree of lowback pain and coping strategies of the elderly people living in ruralarea. About 80% of the elderly people in a rural area reported thatthey have had the low back pain. In addition, most of themexpressed their perceived level of the pain very serious.Nevertheless, very few elderly people visited health centers toalleviate their low back pain. Instead of it, many elderly peopledepended upon customary remedies which were irrational to curetheir low back pain due to their low educational level or lack ofknowledge concerning health care. Thus, it is discussed that healthcare education should be given to the elderly people in the ruralarea.
