ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to examine the relationsbetween the friendship network and psychological wellbeing for theelderly. The friendship relations were measured by severalvariables such as number of friends and social support, while thepsychological wellbeing was measured by the happiness anddepression scales for the 302 elderly respondents. Both happinessand depression levels for the elderly people were significantlyrelated with the variable psychological support among all thefriendship relation variables from the regression analysis. However, the subjective health was the most significant variable accountingfor the psychological wellbeing when considering both the friendshiprelation and socio-demographic variables in the regressionanalysis.
