The Elderly Women's Family Value Orientations and Related Variables

ABSTRACT

The purposes of this research were to find out general trendsof value orientations of family among elderly women and toinvestigate the differences according to related variables. The datawere obtained through 231 women over 60 years old residing inKwangju. The traditional trends of old women's value orientationswere outstanding except sex-role orientations. The value orientationswere different according to socioeconomic status especially inarea of orientations of children's support for parent, but valueorientations of familism was relatively preserved among elderlywomen. Also value orientations of family differed significantlyaccording to physical health, self-esteems, satisfaction level offamily life and family support. Healthy and self-respected womenpresented more modernized orientations and the high level offamily life satisfaction and family support were related traditionalvalue orientations.
