Predictors of Life Satisfaction for the Elderly Persons Who Reside in the Rural Area

ABSTRACT

The purposes of this study were to find out predictors as wellas the most powerful predictor that relate to life satisfaction forthe elderly persons who resides in the rural area. There were 203participants in the study, and most of them showed comparativelylow levels of education. A questionnaire requesting demographicinformation, subjective levels of health and economic status,activities of daily living (ADL) and instrumental ADL, perceivedlevel of self-esteem, frequency of social contacts, and the lifesatisfaction was administered individually. It was found that theperceived level of self-esteem was the most powerful predictor fortheir life satisfaction. The findings of the present study werediscussed in the context of characteristics for the elderly peoplewho live in rural area.
