Effects of Experienced Abuse and Age for the Female Elderly People on their State Anxiety

ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was designed to suggest a way ofimproving quality of life for the elderly people. The sampleconsisted of 243 elderly women who lived with at least one familymember or relative and were cognitively intact. Stepwise regressionwas conducted to determine the amount of elder abuse-relatedvariance that could be attributed to their state anxiety. In addition,age was added as a predictor variable in the analysis. Theregression analysis revealed that the amount of the variance instate anxiety accounted for by the abuse was 34.5%, and anadditional 1.6% by age. The findings were briefly discussed in thecontext of preventing elder abuse.
