ABSTRACT

The greatest problem that the traditional burial system has is tofunction negatively on the environmental protection. Cremation hasbeen partially recommended to deal with the problem, but thecurrent way of cremation (e.g., disposal of powdered bones, construction and/or maintenance of charnel houses) is not free fromharmful after-effects on the environment. Thus, the Law ofFuneral System was amended to iron out those problems in April2007, and one of its major characteristics was to introduce naturalburial system which leaves no signs of tomb or relevant facilities. As long as natural burial is described as a tomb in the amendedlaw of funeral system, the natural burial might not be a successfulsubstitute for burial or charnel houses. Accordingly, the naturalburial system of scattering powdered ashes, instead of burying orkeeping potteries which contain the powered ashes, is suggested inthis paper.
