ABSTRACT

The purpose of this study was to explore and describe the conflictbetween a Korean mother-in-low and a Vietnamese daughter- in-lowin a multicultural family. I described the daily living experience of theconflict in detail following main deteriorating causes of the conflict:the difficulty of communication, cultural difference, and the differenceof mutual expectation. From analyzing the case, the conflict based onthe difference of mutual expectation and on the difference of valueand character are the major sources of the conflict. These conflictpatterns are very similar to Korean cases, but the conflict based onaffectional competition was not important. The major findings of thiscase study would be that emotional acts, shouting, and avoidancewere very often used in daily interactions from the conflicts.
