ABSTRACT

This study was to review the current situation of caregivers’system that was begun to implement when the national long-termcare insurance went into effect in 2008. As the initial stage ofimplementing the system, there have been found its several weakpoints. The current author put forward some suggestions forimproving the quality of caregiving service in this study. First ofall, she placed stress on the training course for caregivers. Puttingit more concretely, any person who wants to serve as a caregiverfor older patients should be at least a high school graduate, shouldtake longer training courses that are more focusing on the socialsciences and humanities, and should have more opportunity forfield practicum. Next, caregivers should be able to work at bettercircumstances. For instance, stricter management and supervisionshould be enforced over the long-term care facilities. Finally, thenecessity of change in social attitudes toward caregivers wasdiscussed.
