The Relationship between the Type of Learning Motivation and Life Satisfaction among the Older Adults who Join in the Continuing Education Program

ABSTRACT

This study was to examine the relationship between the type oflearning motivation and life satisfaction among older adults whojoin in the continuing education program through analyzing data of201 elderly respondents. Most of the respondents wereseptuagenarian women, but activity-oriented type of learningmotivation was found as the strongest motivation for their joiningin the program. Also, the activity-oriented type was a significantpredictor for their life satisfaction such as sense of achievement,self-esteem, and sense of satisfaction with present life. Thefindings were discussed in the context of developing educationalprograms for the older adults who might have different needs inthe future, such as the oldest-old group, the group of highereducational or SES level, and so on.
